APP CONCEPT, DEVELOPMENT, USER EXPERIENCE & UI DESIGN
–
CHALLENGE
Creating an inviting, functional app based on someone’s mood has layers of complexity that needed to be teased out. It needed to be abundantly clear that the user was to first choose the vibe they were going for, and then the type of activity. For example, within concerts, there’s different types of musical experiences. Some are high energy and some are mellow, and everything in between. The idea of this app is that there are many different kinds of activities to chose within each energy, and it gives you choices based on that mood.
SOLUTION
It became important and clear that the opening screen needed to have a clear emphasis on mood, not the various activities. This sets the stage for the whole app and allows the user to explore options within each mood. Also, to further simplify and de-clutter, the navigation is collapsable and allows for the events to take center stage. When the user first launches the app, the main nav pops up. Once they choose a mood, the animated nav collapses into the lower right corner, educating the user as to where the nav lives once on the home screen. A few filters were created so that the user could choose events within each mood, if they so desire. As well as a filter for time, choosing between AM/PM/ or “Anytime.” The stripped down and simplified app is a big improvement from it’s predecessor, below.
