Marissa Caputo is a contemporary abstract painter living in the Bay Area, California. Her most recent works explore the root of human intuition, and how we can reclaim our primal life force in a society that has seemingly divorced itself from nature. The many layers of raw, yet deliberate brush strokes come from deep within, seeking to bring the truest form of primordial wisdom to light. Marissa plays with perception, and abstract symbology that evokes sensation and curiosity. Each piece is a conversation in which she oscillates between making intuitive movement with her whole body, and listening quietly to what wants to take form and be witnessed.

Marissa has led somatic embodied painting workshops in the past at artist retreats, and will likely be offering more in the future. She explores blending dance and painting together, to bring movement and life to mark-making and being present to what’s happening in the body as a painting takes shape. This has been a powerful experience for those who have attended, allowing participants to drop into the body deeply, in this unique ceremony and guided journey of self exploration, expression, and play.
